The Xiaomi Mi 9 and the XR iPhone are premium cell phones from Xiaomi and Apple, respectively. Both smartphones have advanced technical specifications and promise good performance on a daily basis, as well as cameras that must guarantee high-quality photos. Check out the comparison between the phones below.
Screen and design
The notch is present in both phones, but in different formats. The iPhone XR follows the same pattern adopted in the iPhone X, and present in the iPhone XS, Zenfone 5, Motorola One, among others.
Already the Xiaomi Mi 9 follows with the cut in the shape of a drop of water, found in the Moto G7, Huawei P30 Pro and the new smartphones of the Galaxy A line, Samsung.
The Xiaomi phone has a larger screen, 6.39 inches. The Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) is present, which should guarantee good quality during movie viewing, series, reading texts, among other activities.
The iPhone XR has the 6.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, commercially known as Liquid Retina. Although it has even lower definition to the iPhone 8 Plus, the panel plays images with vibrant colors and brings good viewing angle.
Unlike the other Apple releases of 2018, the iPhone XR has only one camera in the back. The resolution is 12 megapixels and is accompanied by an angled lens with f / 1.8 aperture.
During the TechTudo tests, the camera did a good job, and guaranteed high-quality photos with true-to-life colors. The phone also supports portrait mode, although it does not have a dual-camera system.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 goes beyond the dual camera, which tends to take advantage over Apple’s smartphone. There are three sensors, divided as follows:
Main, 48-megapixel (f / 1.75 aperture)
12 megapixel telephoto (f / 2.2)
Ultra wide 16 megapixel (f / 2.2)
The Chinese cell phone tends to outperform when it comes to self-camera, thanks to the 20 megapixel resolution versus 7MP. The iPhone, however, is the only one with TrueDepth technology, depth sensors that aid in the use of Face ID and augmented reality features, such as light effects, Animojis, among others.
Performance and storage
Among the components are the Snapdragon 855 processor, Qualcomm’s most powerful chip with eight cores and speeds up to 2.84 GHz. Complete specifications are 6 GB RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB storage.
The iPhone XR has the Apple A12 Bionic processor, the same as the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Apple did not report the amount of RAM available in the phone. The iPhone XR has options with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 has a 3,300 mAh battery, which should deliver a full day away from the outlets. According to Xiaomi, the cell phone is the first in the world to rely on 20W wireless recharge.
The battery of the phone guaranteed 16 hours of use in the tests of TechTudo. There is no official information about the capability of the smartphone component.
Operating system and additional resources
Both smartphones have the latest versions of their respective operating systems.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 already has the Android 9 (Pie) factory, with customizations of Xiaomi. The iPhone XR, in turn, hit the market with iOS 12.
With Face ID support, the iPhone XR only features facial recognition as a biometric option.
Already the Xiaomi Mi 9 draws attention by the fingerprint reader under the screen, a solution similar to that found in the Galaxy S10.
With the technology, the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max now support more than one carrier chip, as well as other Android-based smartphones available on the market today.
Announced in February 2019 priced from 449 euros, the Xiaomi Mi 9 is not officially available in all countries. The cell phone can be a buying option for those traveling abroad.
